Our Background
We are a registered Institution (REG No. TRN-9PS6AK) under the Trustees Incorporation Act of 2025 of the Malawi Government. Recognizing the growing burden of infectious diseases in urban settings, a group of researchers with expertise in Epidemiology, Mathematics, Public Health and other related disciplines came together in 2022 to establish CEMAR (Centre for Epidemiological and Mathematical Research). The founders of CEMAR led by Nicholas Siame Adam shared a vision of harnessing the power of data-driven research to address the unique challenges of infectious diseases and to develop targeted strategies for infectious disease prevention and control. CEMAR collaborates with modelers within Malawi, the Africa region and beyond. CEMAR believes that improved surveillance systems and contact tracing are cost-effective remedies of avoiding outbreaks using advancements in large-language modelling.

Our Objectives
- To improve surveillance systems for infectious diseases in Malawi and beyond
- To develop early warning systems for an infectious disease outbreak
- To develop and improve the interconnectivity among members in the membership region and their interconnectivity with research and education networks worldwide and with the internet generally
- To stimulate and promote collaboration in research, education and innovation and to directly participate in regional research relevant to research and education networking
- To give policy directions on outbreak management in Malawi and African region
- To provide related auxiliary services to members
