The Centre for Epidemiological and Mathematical Research (CEMAR) recently hosted its Infectious Disease Modelling (IDM) Training online from 15th to 19th December 2025. The sessions ran from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM CAT, blending practical and theoretical lessons for 4 hours of intensive learning each day.
About 140 participants joined from across the globe, representing countries like India, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, and many more. The diverse group enriched the experience with varied perspectives on infectious disease modelling.
The training was led by distinguished facilitators:
- Prof. Amy Winter – University of Georgia
- Prof. John Drake – University of Georgia
- Prof. Suren Wickramasooriya – Dallas College
- Prof. Elias Mwakilama – University of Malawi
- Nicholas Siame Adam – CEMAR
Participants gained skills in mathematical modelling, built professional networks, and earned a certificate of attendance, boosting their public health and research careers. CEMAR’s free online program proved to be a valuable opportunity for global collaboration in disease modelling.
